Sungei Wang Plaza’s annual Lantern Parade, once again illuminated the streets of Bukit Bintang. The event not only celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival but also set the stage for the upcoming Malaysia Day. The grand event, held on 15th September 2024, was officially launched at 7:30 PM by Yang Berusaha Mr Samuel Lee, Deputy Director General (Promotion), Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Joseph Teo, General Manager of Sungei Wang Plaza, shared: “This marks our 8th edition and 10th year of organizing the Lantern Parade, which is also the largest lantern parade in Bukit Bintang. As our theme, ‘Moonlit Blossom, A Lunar Reunion’, we welcome everyone back to the familiar Sungei Wang Plaza, where it feels like home, sharing the warmth of Mid-Autumn family reunions while embracing the traditional essence of the festival.”
The evening’s highlight was an exhilarating performance by BSY Cultural Arts, featuring 40 Oriental drums that echoed through the air, followed by a breathtaking fireworks display illuminating Bukit Bintang’s night sky in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival and Malaysia Day. Thousands of attendees joined the lantern parade, led by over 30 lion dance troupes and a mesmerizing LED dragon, creating a dazzling spectacle as they paraded through the streets. More than 1,000 lanterns and Malaysian flags were distributed, inviting shoppers and tourists to light up Bukit Bintang and celebrate Malaysia’s vibrant multicultural heritage.
Furthermore, this year’s celebration was packed with exciting activities. The all-day event at Sungei Wang Plaza featured interactive games, festive performances, craft workshops, lucky draws, free giveaways, and more. Celebrities from 8TV, including Owen Yap, Gary Yap, Ching Yee, Natalie Xiao Yu, Orange Tan, Rickman Chia, Charlotte Seow, Victoria Ng, Yee Jie, Houson Ng, as well as Eight FM announcers Kyan and Ke Qing, along with Diorlying & Go Hell Holiday, also made special appearances, joining in the parade, playing games, and giving away gifts.
In addition, last year’s Mid-Autumn Fun Under The Moon Lantern Parade earned Sungei Wang Plaza the Silver Award for PPK Malaysia’s “Best Experiential Marketing Awards 2023 – 2024”. An Award presentation was held before the launch and Mr Joseph noted, “We are deeply honoured by this recognition within our industry, and we are thrilled to share this joy with our partners, tenants, and shoppers this year on our stage.”
The Moonlit Blossom Lantern Parade was proudly presented by Sungei Wang Plaza, with strong support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia and Tourism Malaysia. 8TV served as the media partner, with Eight FM as the official radio station and AirAsia Ride as the official ride service. Event partners included JUMPA, KL Hop On Hop Off, and BSY Cultural Arts, with sponsorship from Magnum, Cuckoo, Wonderlab, The Batik Shop, Taste of Asia, Mixue, HWC Coffee, Beryls Chocolate, and Saudi Burger.
